Informal Evaluation and Mentorship

From Year 3

During Spring 2025 I worked with a part-time instructor who was teaching the same introductory chemistry lab course for the first time. I shared my manuals, slides, and logistics, and at the instructor's request I observed a class informally and gave feedback.

Informal observation and feedback

Focus areaObservation / suggestion
Voice & pacingHard to hear from the back; pause longer, repeat key steps.

Safety & structureReinforce goggles and workspace checks while circulating.
Procedural clarityProject lab steps visually for students at the back.

Through the semester

We kept talking through the rest of the term, mostly about running the lab and managing the class. At the end of the semester she told me, "Thanks for listening all semester. It helped just to be able to talk about it."
