Semester: Spring 2025 | Category: Department & College Service
Role: Co-author and Curriculum Collaborator
Ventura College launched its first Associate in Science (A.S.) in Chemistry program in Spring 2025, officially approved by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO #44993) and included in the 2025–2026 catalog.
The project represented a significant departmental effort to create a chemistry degree that bridges CSU and UC transfer expectations while reflecting the college’s equity-driven mission.
Overview
The initiative began in January 2025 under the leadership of Department Chair Malia Rose-Seisa.
I was invited to assist as a co-author and CourseLeaf collaborator, contributing to both the program structure and the narrative documentation required for state approval.
I helped align curricular goals with transfer pathways, proposed course sequencing adjustments (including MATH V21C for UC alignment), and organized the narrative sections describing program goals, catalog description, and place in curriculum. I also reviewed Oxnard College’s AS Chemistry model to ensure articulation consistency across the district and adapted its framework to Ventura College’s regional context.

Impact
The Chemistry A.S. degree, approved in April 2025, marked Ventura College’s first dedicated chemistry program. It established a UC/CSU-aligned transfer pathway that simplifies advising and ensures consistent articulation across the district.
This collaboration also deepened my understanding of curriculum design, transfer policy, and narrative development—skills that continue to inform my work on related initiatives such as ZTC and OER pathways.
